This term in Red Class...
Welcome back – witamy spowrotem – bem vindo de volta- Red Class families!
We hope you’ve had a fantastic and festive break over the holidays. We have a brilliant term in Red lined up for you! Our topics are ‘Winter’ (weeks one and two) and ‘People Who Help Us’ (weeks three to six). The outside world will be sleepy, glittering and cold; we’ll use our super observational skills to draw and paint beautiful winter scenes, extending our observations to wintery writing and number work. Chinese New Year falls on the 23rd and 24th of January, where we’ll celebrate by trying delicious Chinese food and creating art and writing with Chinese paintbrushes.
People Who Help Us begins in week three. Expect lots of visits and talks from important people in our community, starting with a real-life policeman and his flashing car! Children will learn about all the important jobs people do in our community and learn how to see themselves as unique and special individuals with a future. We’ll be busy Creative Caterpillars making tools for workmen using junk modelling and practise our art skills by drawing different vehicles.
Little Wandle Phonics – Children continue learning to blend and read with expression. We'll learn new digraphs and trigraphs and begin to read and write more accurately. Phonics sessions are daily at 10:30am, with Little Wandle Reading Practice every day after lunch.
Maths – we’ll begin with number formation, number composition and move on to mass, capacity and time.
Role Play – Reception’s very own hospital, complete with babies, a bed, dress up and lots of bandages to mend and fix our porrly patients.
