Year 6
This term in Pavilion Class...
We’ve had an excellent start to the new term in Pavilion Class.
Our opening topic based around World War 2, which will learn when and why World War II began and find out about the key individuals and countries involved.
In addition to this, they will discover all about evacuation; learn what it was like to live with food rationing and explore the contribution made by women to the war effort.
In Literacy this term, we will be focusing on Goodnight Mister Tom and writing character descriptions for Mister Tom and Willie. We will also be considering what it was like to be evacuated during wartime. We will also be learning about Anne Frank and writing emotive letters based around her life. In Maths, we are focussing on percentages and their relationship to fractions and decimals, as well as recapping our knowledge around measurements.
In Science, we will be learning about electricity and learning about how to use recognised symbols when drawing an electrical circuit. We will also be finding out whether increasing the voltage of cells used within a circuit will increase the brightness of a bulb.
In P.E. we will be improving our skills in cricket and athletics. In Art, we will be refining our drawing and sketching skills by drawing portraits of World War Two soldiers.

Secondary School information:
The closing date for applications to transfer to secondary school in September 2023 is the 31st October 2022.

The School Admissions Team recommend that parents apply online as this means you will receive an automatic confirmation of their application. It also means you will receive an offer from them by email on 1st March 2023.
If parents are unable to apply online you can apply by downloading an application form using this link: Download school application forms . Please print the form and return the form to the school by the closing date.
Email offers in response to online applications will be made after noon on 1st March 2023. Offer letters in response to paper applications will be posted first class on 1st March 2023 which means they will not be received until after 1st March. No decisions will be given by telephone.
