Year 1 - Blue Class

This term in Blue Class...

Welcome to Year 1!

Our topic in Blue Class this term is ‘Toys Old and New’.

Please see this term’s topic web below which shows you the learning objectives we will be working towards during the term. It also includes details of our Stunning Start and exciting Fabulous Finish. This is a history topic that will be looking at how toys have changed over the past few generations. If you have any old toys from your childhood or the children’s grandparents’ childhood that you would be happy to let your child bring in to school for the day to share then please me know. Please be assured that I will make sure these toys are well looked after on the day. Alternatively, if you would like to come in and talk to the class about your toy then please let me know!

I will also be sending a questionnaire home next week with some questions on for the children to ask you about what you liked to play with as a child. Thank you in advance for helping with this task.

For our ‘Fabulous Finish’ we will be visiting Hove Museum on the morning of Friday 10th February for a workshop about toys, spending time learning about toys from the past and present.

Blue Class also now have a class bear called ‘Edward’ who will be sent home with one child each weekend. The children are very excited about this!

May I also take this opportunity to remind you that year 1 still have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays so please continue to send your child in on their PE kit on those days.

Please also remember, that book bags are changed once a week on a Friday. Please bring the wallets in on a Thursday so that there is enough time for me to change the bags ready for Friday. Please feel free to leave a comment in the children’s yellow reading books (in their wallets) whenever you read with them. Thank you!

The children will continue to being home phonics homework every Friday too, apart from at the end of the term when we have an assessment week. The children are all making fantastic progress with the Little Wandle phonics scheme, hopefully you have seen the progress for yourself in their reading and writing at home.

Thanks for your continued support and do please feel free to come and talk to me about any concerns or queries you may have.

Kind regards,

Ms Price, Year 1 Teacher
